Yes, it's a fact - you are the coolest guy. No, no - I am not pampering you. You and me, the Internet users have been getting increasingly important for web sites to survive and smart web site owners have realized this already. This is the age of the user community, Web 2.0 if you like to call it that.
Times officially acknowledged this long back, in 2006. It has now become well established that web sites that talk of the users, care for them and service their needs are the ones that succeed and sell more than the sites that go for the sale straight away.
So what's the big lesson here - move the focus on your web sites away from you, the marketer to you, the user. And you will be laughing all the way to the bank.
The last few days of playing this "coolest guy on the planet" game has been a very humbling experience for me. With all these stalwarts around, who have done so much for the world and humanity, who have spent their lifetime in the service of the planet earth, who am I to bid for this coveted crown? So am I retiring from the race? No way…
This site will continue to participate in the fun experiment that I call it. I will still like it to be the 1st result when you search for "coolest guy on the planet" but I will stop talking about how I deserve to be the coolest one and will concentrate on those who are more deserving.
What do you say? Who do you think we should talk about? Please enter the name of your favorite 'coolest person' in the poll here and we will cover them in an episode 'coming soon'
While Brad Fallon has more or less stayed at the top of Google rankings (search Google for 'coolest guy on the planet'), the other rankings have fluctuated a lot. Russ Bronson has had a stint at the 3rd place, Jon Leger has been in the 9th and 10th position and there have been several other contestants who have broken in the top 10 coolest rankings but then slid away.
I am now working on getting Arun Agrawal (that's me, thanks!) in the top 10 ranking and with your support, plan to be there soon enough. It's easy to support me - you can make a post about this site on your blog or put in a comment to cheer me (don't forget that you get a juicy link back if your comment is approved).
Thanks!
As I had mentioned, you can watch over my shoulders as I work on making this a cool site for a cool guy. Here is what I have done to get this off the ground:
1. I used a blog to get a headstart. This took away a lot of designing time and also allows me to add new pages quickly and easily. While Wordpress is a good choice for this (also FREE), I used Semiologic that comes bundled with several SEO enhancements and other plugins bundled, while retaining the Wordpress engine.
2. I setup a link from one of my high Pagerank web sites so that Google and other search engines can take note of this site and spider it quickly.
3. I activated the Google sitemap plugin and pinged Google, so that they take notice of this site.
And now the part that matters most to you –
4. I activated the Dofollow plugin. This means that when you post a comment on this blog, you can get a little link juice back to your site. Of course, spammers are not welcome. I have plugins to shoo away the spambots and manually moderate the comments, so please leave a meaningful comment or a nice cheer for me so that I get tempted to approve your comment.
How's that about a Win-Win deal? You have to click on the comments link at the end of this post to post a comment - if you cheer me, we can win this game.
